"THE
RADICAL AFFIRMATION that the Lord created our world categorically
contradicts the pronouncements of the world's thought leaders and of
most leading scientists. It points to the existence of an Intelligence
who invented and brought into existence everything in nature. The
maintenance of the created world requires the Lord's continued
sustenance. We are as yet unable to appreciate the degree of
sophistication and the immensity of effort required for these
accomplishments. The care of the planet was entrusted to humanity.
"Creation brings into sharp focus several important concepts:
- The world in its entirety is the
property of the Creator.
- As the ultimate owner, the Creator
holds us accountable for the way we use Earth's resources.
- Our existence has a purpose. Even our
cursory understanding of nature shows a function for all components,
animate and inanimate. To us humans is granted an open-ended existence,
with freedom to search out this purpose, to make choices and to
implement them.
- All living beings on Earth are
interrelated by virtue of having been created as part of the global
ecosystem. All humans arc genetically related, being descendants of Adam
and Eve, through the lineage of Noah. We should seek to treat every
human being as a blood relative.
"It
is, in fact, possible to be a scientist and a creationist. It is
permissible to interpret scientific data from a perspective other than
naturalistic materialism. Creationism does not lower scientific
standards, nor does it introduce magic into the laboratory. It
acknowledges the existence of a supernatural Being who invented
everything and brought it all into existence. As our concept of what
"everything" includes continually increases, so does the credit that
goes to the Creator.
