The Creationist Curmudgeon has been following the web debate between ID and Evo, like the blogout between Casey Luskin (I.D. guy) and Wesley Elsberry (Evo guy), http://www.evolutionnews.org/.  In their September exchanges there was some good scholarly declamation going on, especially from the I.D. guy, but, alas, after a few rounds it got to sounding less like a high-level dialog and more like a kids' game – "Bet You Can't Not Say the G-word."  So here we are out on the third-grade playground, and they're still at it.

Evo kid: "Gotcha!  You said the G-word!"

Intelligent Designer kid: "Did not!"

EK: "Did so!"

IDK: "Did not!  Well, sure, some ID guys – like The Creationist Curmudgeon [1] -- are pretty loose with the G-word, but not me."

EK: "But you meant it."

IDK: "Did not."

EK: "Did so!  Gotcha!"

IDK: "Did not!  Just the D word."

EK: "Close enough!   And furthermore ID's a religion. Gotcha!"

IDK: "'tis not!"

EK: "'tis!"

IDK: "Even without the G-word?"

EK: "Yup!"

IDK: "'tis not!  Hey, the D-word makes deism–D for D, catch?  The G-word makes it theism.  Theism is religion.  Is deism?"

EK: "Sure is, any good globally sensitive, broadminded, tenured deconstructionist multiculturalist knows that.  Everybody knows that.  Gotcha!"

IDK: "Everybody?"

EK: "Especially everybody.  And Everybody knows it's unconstitutional to teach—"

IDK: "It's unconstitutional to teach what Jefferson and Ben Franklin, even Voltaire—?"

EK: "That's an insult!"

IDK: "Insult to who?  Jefferson?  Franklin?  Voltaire?"

EK: "Insult to us.  They're outmoded."

IDK: "OK, ya got me!  Have it your way.  If ID is a religion, Evo's got to be one too, to the great god Atheism, the A-word.  And therefore unconstitutional to … and so forth."

EK: "Not fair!

IDK: "Is so!"

EK: "Is not!"

IDK: "Is!  Sure it's fair!  Hey, Evo is a religion and eligible for faith-based subsidies!  Cool, huh?  Gotcha!"

EK: "Evo'd never stoop to that.  Unconstitutional."

ID: "What about Evo's science-based subsidies, oceans and galaxies of it, which Evo doesn't want ID to have any of?"

EK: "ID's not science."

IDK: "Is too!"

EK: "Is not!  It's stupid, fraudulent, spurious, religious – religious and outmoded and primitive and prehistoric.  So not science!"

IDK: "Is too.  Maybe G-word guys aren't scientists but D-word guys are."

EK: "You all look alike to me."

IDK: "Not alike!"

EK: "Are!"

IDK: "Not!  We think induction, G-word guys think deduction--like you."

EK: "You're lumping us–us Evoeans--with G-word guys?"

IDK: "Why not?  You think alike.  Just as doctrinaire.  Why not?"

EK: "Because you're insulting, stupid, outmoded, fraudulent, spurious, devious, unacademic, and just lawyers!"

IDK: "Thought you said we were a bunch of religious hicks."

EK: "That too.  And stupid and uneducated."

IDK: "Not!  We've got degrees, PhDs in science and everything."

EK: "Yours don't count.  Spurious, fraudulent, insulting!  Impudent, uppity -- stupid, rural, red-necked, uncouth, unsophisticated, fraudulent, spurious – and bigoted, biased, and religious and religious and biased and bigoted, same thing – and devious, sneaky, sleazy, unconstitutional, boat-rockers, troublemakers.  Activists!

EK: "Activists?  Ouch, that hurts!"

EK, without missing a beat: "…religious, outmoded, retarded, mindless, brainless, primitive, prehistoric.  And unscientific.  And doctrinaire!  And disingenuous!  So there!"

Teacher, ringing the bell: "Recess over, children.  Time for sensitivity class."
